Few chamber orchestras anywhere in the world are in such great demand as the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn. Ever since it was established by Prof. J?rg Faerber in 1960, it has been building a reputation for musical excellence. The chamber orchestra captivates audiences not only with its great versatility, but also with its dynamism and virtuosity, combined with deep musical sensitivity and emotion. That is why the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn is acclaimed in the press for its “exquisite sound" (WAZ) and “breathtaking brilliance" (Die Welt).

In addition to its programme of subscription concerts in Heilbronn, the orchestra gives numerous guest performances every year, both in Germany and abroad (including Europe, Japan, and North America), and appears at events such as the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, ‘Dias da Musica’ in Lisbon and the Storioni Festival in Eindhoven.

The WKO has also been active in the field of youth work; it also sponsors the Young Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart through its ‘tutti pro’ initiative. In the course of half a century, not only has the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn worked alongside many prominent artistes; it has, in addition, consistently supported the young talent of the future. Soloists who have returned again and again to perform with the ensemble include Martha Argerich, Maurice André, Alfred Brendel, Rudolf Buchbinder, Gautier Capu?on, Giora Feidman, Julia Fischer, Justus Frantz, James Galway, Evelyn Glennie, Hilary Hahn, Heinz Holliger, Sharon Kam, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Gidon Kremer, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Thomas Quasthoff, Daniel Müller-Schott and Frank Peter, as well as Tabea Zimmermann.

The following recordings feature principal conductor Ruben Gazarian and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn: a CD of works by Joseph and Michael Haydn, as well as a recording of works by Johann Christian and Johann Wilhelm Hertel, which was awarded the 2009 Echo Klassik prize (Dabringhaus und Grimm); recordings of works by Tchaikovsky and Dmitri Shostakovich, and a CD released in 2009 entitled ‘Oboe Cosmopolitano’ (Bayer Records); and the most recent release on CD, ‘The Flight of the Double Bee’ (Deutsche Grammophon).
