Wu Qionghua, daughter of a poor peasant, has been chained to a post in the dungeon of the Tyrant Nanbatian of the South, a landlord despot. Qionghua manages to escape. She is soon recaptured. Hong Changqing, the Commissar, and Xiao Pang, the Messenger, who are on a reconnaissance mission in disguise, pass by. They save Qionghua and point the revolutionary road for her. In the camp of the Red Army beside the Wanquan River, Qionghua angrily tells her companions of the Nanbatian's heinous crimes. Hung Changqing, calm and dignified, in the disguise of a wealthy overseas merchant, arrives in the courtyard of the Tyrant of the South. Qionghua, disguised as the maid of Changqing, can not help hiding her angriness and shoots Nanbatian at night. The wounded Tyrant assembles a large number of troops and they attack the base of the Red Army. Changqing is captured during the battle and he bears Nanbatian's torture. Finally Changqing is burnt to death and the main force of the Red Army has won their battle. Although Changqing has given his life, millions of other revolutionaries arise. The Commander announces that Qionghua will succeed Changqing as the Commissar of the Women's Detachment. Qionghua takes over his portfolio and she and her companions will continue their revolutionary cause.
