With a width of 49.7 meters, Humen Second Bridge’s Dasha Canal Section is the world’s widest steel-box-girder suspension bridge. It took engineers 62 days to install a total of 94 steel-box girders, having started work on November 9, 2017.

Once open, the Second Humen Bridge will connect Guangzhou’s Nansha District with Dongguan’s Houjie, Dalingshan and Liaobu town. It will cross several major waterways including the Dasha Canal, Haiou Island and Nizhou Canal, and link up with existing expressways, such as the Guangzhou ring expressway and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen riverine expressway.

The Second Humen Bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. Once completed, the bridge is expected to ease pressure on the existing Humen Bridge and improve the flow of traffic between both sides of the Pearl River Estuary. It is hoped that a more sophisticated transport network will also speed up the development of the Nansha Free Trade Zone.
