Finland, a country in northern Europe, is nearly 8,000km from Dongguan. Despite the long distance, Jouni Ramo, a Chinese chess addict from Finland, came to Dongguan to attend the YangGuanLin Cup Chess contest. With blue eyes, Roman nose and beard, Jouni Ramo drew attention the minute he appeared. His first battle lasted for almost 3 hours and only just before, Jouni Ramo overcame jet-lag.

“Even though this foreign friend isn’t good at Chinese, he practices a high-level chess technique. Had it not been for his lack of practical experience, I should not be the winner.” said Jouni Ramo’s opponent Huang Yuji after the match.

Although Jouni Ramo lost his first game, he was reluctant to leave. He retained Huang to analyse the tactics and provide advice. “This is truly an eye-opening contest. With so many masters here, I cannot miss even a chance to learn from them,” Jouni Ramo said excitedly.
