Dongguan's GDP up 7.5% in 2018

Mr. Xiao Yafei (Mayor of Dongguan City) addressed a government work report at the fifth meeting of the 16th People’s Congress of Dongguan on 16th January. According to the report, Dongguan’s total GDP for 2018 is expected to have reached 830 billion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%, with total imports and exports exceeding 1.3 trillion RMB.
 
Dongguan is a world-famous manufacturing city with many foreign-invested companies. In recent years, Dongguan has continuously strengthened the rule of law and promoted reforms in areas such as commercial registration. This has enhanced the international business environment in Dongguan and attracted increased investment from high-quality enterprises.
 
Xiao said that in 2018, Dongguan’s economic and social development was stable with good momentum for growth. The number of industrial enterprises above a designated government size exceeded 10,000 ranking it first in Guangdong Province. The number of market entities in Dongguan exceeded 1.15 million, ranking first among prefecture-level cities in Guangdong Province.
 


In 2018, Dongguan introduced policies to reduce burdens on enterprises, to promote their transformation, and expand their development space. The total tax reduction and exemption for enterprises exceeded 24.8 billion RMB. The enterprise approval system was reformed in 2018, reducing the checklist from 162 to 60 items. From August 2018, the approval time was cut by half.
 
With the improvement of the international business environment, Dongguan has attracted increasing numbers of enterprises from both the domestic and international markets to invest. In 2018, Dongguan City introduced 172 domestically funded projects with a total investment of over 100 million RMB and 102 foreign investment projects with a total investment of over US$10 million.
