On the afternoon of November 19, the 2019 Joint Conference for Upgrading and Transformation of Hong Kong-Invested Enterprises in Dongguan was held in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Productivity Council have conducted in-depth exchanges and discussion based on the theme of “Developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Accelerating Transformation and Upgrading of Hong Kong-Invested Enterprises”. Representatives from the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Chinese Importers’& Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA) and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce have respectively illustrated the difficulties faced by member enterprises in Dongguan and offered related advice. Relevant departments from Dongguan have responded accordingly.

During the conference, the Bureau of Commerce of Dongguan City introduced the latest policies for businesses and the Dongguan Office for the Greater Bay Area affairs briefed on Dongguan’s role in the development of the Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Bureau of Commerce of Dongguan City signed a cooperation agreement.

According to Liu Wei, Vice-Mayor of Dongguan, the joint conference mechanism of Dongguan and Hong Kong should be fully utilized to address the difficulties faced by Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Dongguan. Hong Kong-invested enterprises in Dongguan should actively seize the historical opportunities presented by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Area and Guangdong Province Reform and Innovation Experimental Zone, bolster confidence in development in Dongguan. Win-win development should be achieved through cooperation and cooperation example in the Greater Bay Area should be set up. In the face of fresh development opportunities, it is expected that institutes and enterprises deepen and broaden their cooperation to form a Dongguan-Hong Kong cooperation pattern with distinguished characteristics and complementary functions.

Liu Wei and the delegation also attended Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) during their visit to Hong Kong. They visited the Airport Authority Hong Kong and both sides reached consensus with regard to cooperation in jointly building “Hong Kong-Dongguan International Airport Cargo Center”.
