Construction of Dongguan Metro Line 1 project has made recent progress. 17 of the 24 stations on the line have already started construction, while the remaining 7 stations (of which 3 were newly added) are engaged in procedural tasks such as land acquisition and design planning.

At present, the Binjiang Stadium Station on Metro Line 1 is making the best progress. Excavation of the foundation pit has begun. It is expected that the shield tunnel will be launched between Binjiang Sports Park and Guantai Road Station in the second half of this year, which means construction of the Metro Line 1 project will enter a new stage.

Metro Line 1 is an expressway running from northwest to southeast Dongguan. It is a rapid transport line connecting Dongguan with the rail transit network of Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The first phase of Line 1 will start at Wanghong Station and end at Huangjiang Central Station, with a total length of 57.99km. There will be 24 stations, including 21 underground stations and 3 elevated stations.

The preliminary budget estimate for Metro Line 1 project is 34.443 billion RMB. The construction began on 16th August 2019 with trial operations planned to commence some time in 2024 and officially commence in 2025.

Once new construction is complete, Xinyuan Road Station will directly lead to the city's Women and Children's Activities Centre (new campus). The centre, which is still under construction, will become a public facility that integrates women and children's quality education, specialty teaching, children's entertainment and performing arts.
