Spanish Consul General in Guangzhou visits Dongguan

On May 22nd, Mr. Jesús Gracia (Spain's Consul General in Guangzhou) visited Dongguan City. Representatives from the Municipal Foreign Affairs Bureau, the Municipal Culture & Tourism Bureau, and Tourism Bureau, and the Bureau of Commerce received the guest delegation. Both sides reached consensus on strengthening cooperation and exchanges in the fields of trade, culture, tourism and sports.

Officials in charge of the Foreign Affairs Bureau expressed hopes that once Covid-19 subsides, and with the support of the Consulate General, each side would be able to conduct substantive exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism, and sister city relations. Dongguan has a developed economy and a large population, while Spain has deep historical cultural heritage and rich tourism resources. Both sides can complement each other's strengths and promote cooperation in tourism, culture and art. It was agreed to jointly hold a Spanish tourism photo exhibition and economic trade promotion activity in Dongguan.

Mr. Jesús Gracia said that Dongguan is not only an industrial city, but also a beautiful garden city. Although Spain and Dongguan continue to battle CONVID-19, he hoped this visit will lay foundations for the promotion of cooperation efforts after the pandemic. Spain is very willing to strengthen cooperation with Dongguan in the fields of economy, trade, culture, tourism and friendly city ties.

During the meeting, the Bureau of Commerce and the Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau also presented prospects of cooperation between Dongguan and Spain in trade and tourism. From January to March this year, the city's imports from Spain reached 91.04 million RMB, a year-on-year increase of nearly 20%.
