Top 20 most attractive Chinese cities

The recently released "China Urban Vitality Research Report, 2020Q2" saw Dongguan highly ranked for city attractiveness, youth appeal, and population attractiveness. Respectively, Dongguan ranked third, first and third. The report was compiled by the Baidu Maps Smart Eye team in conjunction with the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. Its' aim was to measure vitality of the national urban population based on massive data from Baidu Map.

Cities in Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and those with developed tourism industries in central China have seen a high degree of population mobility in the second quarter. The top ten cities by migration are Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Shanghai, Dongguan, Zhengzhou, Suzhou, Xi'an, Foshan and Hangzhou. Dongguan ranked fifth indicating a vigorous local economic and personnel exchange.

Dongguan has overtaken Shanghai and Beijing taking third place in the list of "Top 10 most attractive Chinese cities", but continues to trail Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Among the listed top ten cities, four are in the Pearl River Delta and three are in the Yangtze River Delta.

Top 10 most attractive Chinese cities for youths

As for the "Top 10 most attractive Chinese cities for youths", Dongguan tops the rankings with a youth inflow ratio of 77.31%. The ratio refers to the proportion of the city's new population influx aged between 18 to 34. In the second quarter, the top ten rankings were Dongguan, Nanning, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Kunming, Jinhua, Zhongshan, Guilin, Nanchang, and Guiyang.

Dongguan has achieved rapid GDP growth in recent years with the development of "intelligent manufacturing", attracting more and more young high-tech talents to flood in. Dongguan has been committed to creating more opportunities for the younger generation. Furthermore, the development and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area provides a new wave of opportunities for youths to create their own success stories. Thus, young people have become a main force in local construction and development.
