On November 30th, at the construction site of Foshan-Dongguan intercity railway in Hongmei Town, Dongguan City, the first pair of 500-meter-long steel rails was accurately put into place, marking the official start of rail-laying on line. The track uses a WZ500E track-laying machine unit, which was researched and developed domestically, for laying the slag-free long steel rails. It also adopts a intelligent dispatching transportation management system to complete the automation of the rail-laying operation.

The main line will have a total length of 36.681 kilometers and seven stations, including Guangzhou South railway station, Chimelong station, Panyu Avenue station, Guanqiao station, Lianhua station, Machong station and Dongguan West railway station. The trains can travel at up to 200Km/hour.

It is worth noting that the Foshan-Dongguan intercity rail will link with the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity line, Dongguan-Huizhou intercity line, Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity line, Guangzhou-Foshan intercity line, Foshan-Zhaoqing intercity line and Guangzhou-Qingyuan intercity line, forming a fast intercity rail network in the Pearl River Delta. From Guangzhou South Railway Station, the line's the first stop, passengers can transfer to Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen or Zhuhai. In addition, the under construction Pazhou branch line will stop at Lianhua Station, and then continue on to Guangzhou downtown. The line extends to nearly all the main regions in GBA, with Dongguan urban area and Huizhou on the eastern side; Humen town, Chang'an town and Shenzhen Bao'an international airport on the southern side; while to the north is Guangzhou East railway station, Baiyun international airport and Guangzhou North railway station.

After the rail-laying is completed, the Foshan-Dongguan intercity railway will seamlessly connect with the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway, which is of great significance to the development of the "one-hour" urban circle in the Pearl River Delta and the transportation construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
