On the evening of January 11th, 2021, Dongguan CDC received a notification that a Hong Kong cross-border truck driver surnamed Lin, who is asymptomatically infected with the COVID-19 virus, had visited Dongguan. He entered Huanggang Port in Shenzhen at 11:56 on January 11th, and received a routine nucleic acid test upon entry. As the test result was positive, Lin was diagnosed with an asymptomatic infection of the COVID-19.

Previously, Lin entered the Chinese mainland via Shenzhen, and drove directly to the Kaiye Paper Factory in Qiaotou town in Dongguan (东莞桥头开业纸品厂) to load goods after nucleic acid testing on Dec.27, Dec.29, Dec.31 of 2020 and Jan.1, Jan.3, Jan.4, Jan.5, Jan.6, Jan.7, Jan.10, Jan.11 of 2021 respectively, (truck license plate No.: Guangdong ZYC85, Hong Kong PN8274). The factory is located at No. 1, Xipian 1st Street, Shishuikou Village, Qiaotou Town, Dongguan city (桥头镇石水口村西片一街1号). There was no other driver from the mainland in contact with Lin. He left Dongguan to return to Hong Kong on the same night each time. Except for the positive result for the nucleic acid test taken on January 11th, the results of the other 10 nucleic acid tests were all negative.

Lin stayed at Qiaotou Kaiye Paper Factory and its branch factory in Dongguan from 13:00 to 18:00 on January 10th; stayed at Qiaotou Kaiye Paper Factory from 13:00 to 17:00 on January 11th. He used the high way all the way while driving, and passed the toll station through the ETC channel.

After learning about the positive case, Dongguan city with great urgency took action. The COVID-19 Prevention & Control Command of Dongguan City and Qiaotou Town immediately initiated an emergency response. The provincial CDC also came to the city to guide relevant work on the spot. After investigation, 9 close contacts, with another 32 in contact with them, were identified and all have been put under quarantine for medical observation. Temporary control and terminal disinfection measures have been taken in relevant places and areas. As of 9 am on January 12th, a total of 183 nucleic acid samples have been collected, including 142 from personnel and 41 from the environment, all of which tested negative. Next, Dongguan will conduct nucleic acid tests on all residents in the village where the factory is located. Relevant personnel and citizens are asked to cooperate with the process.

As winter comes, prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic has become increasingly difficult. Everyone is responsible for epidemic prevention and control. The general public is requested to pay attention to personal protection by wearing masks correctly, washing hands frequently, ensuring regular ventilation, maintaining safe social distancing, and avoiding gatherings. Don’t trust, spread or make rumors.
