On May 8, 2022, Dongguan "Jianghushanhai" intangible cultural heritage series activities and the launching ceremony of the Dragon Boat Month were held at Qilong Square, Zhengya Village Jialian Community, Wanjiang District. The dragon boat that was buried deep in the riverbed resurfaced, marking the beginning of the dragon boat race, a traditional cultural activity with significant influence,  long history, a large number of participants and the most regionally iconic in Dongguan.

Early in the morning, at the riverside of Zhengya Village, young and middle-aged villagers were struggling to excavate the dragon boat up from the river. And then, they cleaned off the silt and other debris on the boat and scooped out the water in the boat with buckets until the dragon boat could float by itself.

The dragon boat culture in Zhengya Village has a long history and profound heritage. The ancient dragon boats are handcrafted with Elsideroxylon spp and pine wood, keeping the dragon boat in good condition even under the sand and mud. It is a unique feature of Dongguan dragon boat culture to "hidden" and "raise" the dragon boat.

The villagers who participated in the launching ceremony were in high spirits, and they were excited when they saw the boat reappear from the water. "Although the water is a little cold, and I must be careful of the stones in the water. I am still thrilled to be able to participate in the dragon raising ceremony," said a villager.
