As of 6 pm on Monday, the devastating Typhoon Mangkhut had affected 1.55 million people in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan provinces. Four people were killed, and one is still missing. More than 700 houses have collapsed or have been severely damaged.
In Guangdong alone, a total of 458 townships in 66 counties suffered from the disaster. 533 square kilometres of crops were damaged, and 121 houses collapsed. The four deaths reported occurred in the province, and the total direct economic loss has reached 4.2 billion yuan.
Civil affairs departments at all levels dispatched more than 13,000 working groups, and opened 18,000 emergency shelters, evacuating 3.12 million people. Governments at different levels have allocated more than 16 million yuan toward disaster relief.

Life is returning to normal in many cities after the super typhoon wreaked havoc in southern China. However, Yangjiang’s Yangchun City has been swept by continuous, heavy rainfall for two days from September 16 to 17, pushing river levels to record highs. Severe floods are occurring in many parts of the city.
The Guangdong Flood Prevention and Drought Relief Headquarters decided to convert the wind prevention level-III emergency response to a flood prevention level-III emergency response at 7 pm yesterday.
