The trip between Shenzhen and Xiamen, Fujian Province will be cut from 3.5 to 2.5 hours starting from April 10 with a top speed for high-speed trains to be increased from 200 to 250 kilometers per hour.

The operator is working on a flexible fare system with the ticket prices between the two cities for second-class passengers ranging between 125 yuan (US$19) and 210 yuan, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily on Friday. The fare system will put into use starting April 10.

The prices will be decided by different travel seasons, time periods, passenger seating classes and rail operation sections. It will also introduce new types of tickets like commuter tickets that are calculated by travel frequency or certain time periods.

Currently, ticket prices are fixed at 190 yuan for a second-class seater, 305 yuan for a first-class seater and 571 yuan for a business-class seater.

The 514-kilometer Xiamen-Shenzhen High-speed Rail was put into operation in 2013 and runs along the coast of Fujian and Guangdong, linking Xiamen, Chaozhou, Shantou and Shenzhen.

The railway operator started improving their operation standards in 2019 and is now ready to run at 250 kilometers per hour.
