It seems that finding a refuge to stay cool with friends in Dongguan has become a dream too difficult for many to realize. However, besides famous summer resorts throughout mainland China, many cooler options closer to home can be found with a little careful research.

Guanyin Mountain: 5℃ cooler than urban areas

Guanyin Mountain National Forest Park, located in Zhangmutou Town, is Dongguan’s first national forest park. As a “natural oxygen bar”, Guanyin Mountain does not have a high altitude, but does have over 99% forest coverage resulting in an annual average temperature of 22.1℃. According to staff, even if the city’s temperatures climb to 35℃, temperatures across Guanyin Mountain will remain around 30℃. Hiking to the summit might not sound like a way to keep cool, but actually there are many cool invigorating breezes making the trip quite pleasant and easily attainable.

There are also many refreshing natural phenomena across Guanyin Mountain. Natural waterfalls within the park are inexhaustible all year round. One of the waterfalls has a sheer drop of 380 metres, while another has many twists and turns. Both have become attractions of rare natural waterfalls in Dongguan. Temperatures near waterfalls across the mountain are often lower than 26℃.
