On July 22, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment reported the national environmental air quality in June and the first six months of 2022. Dongguan's air quality ranked 14th among 168 key cities in June.
In recent years, Dongguan has made great efforts to find a way of high-quality development, becoming a city with a GDP exceeding trillion yuan and a permanent population of more than 10 million. At the same time, Dongguan, as a major manufacturing city, has continued to pay close attention to air pollution control, winning the battle against air pollution is considered the top priority. Dongguan not only promotes the restructuring of industry, energy and transportation but also deepens the treatment of pollution sources, thus steadily improving the quality of the atmospheric environment.
Air quality in Dongguan has continued to improve in the first six months of the year, with the air quality index (AQI) of 3.27, an improvement of 8.1% year-on-year; the proportion of days with good air quality came in at 85.1 percent, up 3.9 percentage points from the same period last year. The density of PM10 dropped 26.1 percent year on year to 34 micrograms per cubic meter, while the NO2 density declined 12.9 percent from a year ago to 27 micrograms per cubic meter. Moreover, in the first six months of the year, the concentration of PM2.5 hazardous particles was 20 micrograms per cubic meter, down 4 percent year-on-year and hit a record low.
