The original Cantonese opera Eternal Agilawood, the first production inspired by Dongguan's agarwood culture, had its successful premiere at the Guangzhou Opera House on July 16. This groundbreaking performance, featuring two forms of intangible cultural heritage: Cantonese opera and agarwood traditions, will tour Dongguan and Jiangmen in coming weeks.

As the Adator and Director of the show, Zhang Manjun shared her opinion, "Cantonese opera's ancient roots provide fertile ground for our historical narrative. As cultural ambassadors, we're revitalizing tradition through this tribute to Lingnan's aromatic legacy."

Hu Jiawei, the Co-Adaptor of the opera, he said,  "Dongguan Agarwood is our creative anchor. As a powerful symbol of Chinese, Lingnan, and Dongguan heritage, its influence and value are recognized worldwide."

After watching the premier of the show, "Agarwood is a treasured part of Dongguan's local culture, just as Cantonese opera is a gem of Guangdong. I came to witness their fusion onstage — and it was breathtaking! When agilawood incense was lit at the beginning, its fragrance floated through the theater.
