Green way

Dongguan, a city famous the world over for its manufacturing, is also praised for its greenery. While Dongguan can't match Guangzhou and Shenzhen for their high buildings, the ecological environment and green coverage has been improving in a fast accelerating manner. 

Dongguan is endowed with good natural ecology with a third mountainous and another third covered in water. By 2011, more than 22,885,000 volunteers planted more than 80,949,000 trees in Dongguan bringing city forest coverage to 36.7%.

According to "Dongguan City's 12th Five-Year Plan for Eco-forestry Development" the city will achieve 16.65 square metres per capita of green area, forested areas of ？？25,485 hectares, and a forest coverage rate of 37.5% by 2015. Dongguan also aims to have enough city forest vegetation to absorb 2,434.5 tons of carbon dioxide and fix 6,639,500 tons of carbon sequestration per year. Forest vegetation will release 1,968,000 tons of oxygen per year, with the benefits of forest ecological environment totalling 6.802 billion RMB.
