Songshan Lake (Ecological Park) lies in the geographical center of Dongguan City, with a total planned area of 103 square kilometers.
Songshan Lake was established in November 2001; it was approved as a National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in September 2010 by the State Council. Dongguan Ecological Park was established in June 2006. It was approved to be one of the first circular-economy industrial parks on provincial level in 2011 and a national eco-industrial demonstration park in 2013. In December 2014, the Party Committee and the Government of Dongguan City started to integrate and coordinate the development of Songshan Lake and Ecological Park. Songshan Lake (Ecological Park) was approved to build into a Pearl River Delta National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone in September 2015 by the State Council. At present, the zone ranks the 23rd among high tech zones in the nation at the aspect of comprehensive strength, ranks the first in the prefecture level city throughout the province.

Songshan Lake (Ecological Park) keeps a rapid momentum in terms of economic growth. To date, over 4000 high-quality enterprises and projects had been attracted to the park, such as Huawei, CIMC, Coolpad, Shengyi Technology, CEC, Everwin Precision, TP-Link, Zhengye Technology, HEC Pharm Group, 3S Bio Inc., Anitime Animation, and the like.

In late years, Songshan Lake (Ecological Park), with the instruction of the five concepts for development, the guidance of the structural reform of supply-side and the core assignment of establishing itself into a National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone of Pearl River Delta, has been practicing innovation-driven developmental key strategies in depth, highlighting technological and industrial advancement,building favorable innovation and entrepreneurship-based ecology as well as continually promoting the government’s service capacity, with an aim to strive for the leader in strategic deployment for establishing state-level innovation center of science and technology throughout the province and contribute to higher-level development of the city at a higher starting point. 

In 2017, the Zone’s gross industrial output value for enterprises above designated size stood at RMB 303.978 billion yuan, with an increase of 18% year on year; the main industrial business income for enterprises above designated size was about RMB 305.695 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 29.3%; and the total import and export volume arrived at RMB 162.783 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 25.8%.

The Zone has received numerous awards and titles, including China’s High-tech Industrial Development Zone with the Greatest Development Potential, National High-Tech Industrial Base for the Information Industry, Pioneer Park for Returned Oversea Elites Jointly Built by the Ministry and Guangdong Province, Pearl River Delta Cultural and Creative Industry Experimental Zone, National Pilot Park for S&T Service System Construction, National Demonstration Base for New-Type Industrial Industries, National Copyright Demonstration Park, National Intellectual Property Pilot Park, Provincial Talents Reform Pilot Area, Provincial First ‘Internet-plus’ Establishment Town, one of the first Circular-economy Industrial Parks in Guangdong Province and National Urban Wetland Park in Dongguan City.
