The town of Dalang is located in the middle and south of Dongguan. It covers an area of 97.5 square kilometers and with a population of 320,000. Transportation is convenient and environment is pleasant. It accommodates large-scaled lychee orchards and greening forests and six reservoirs, and has been long known as “Town of Lychee”. In recent years, Dalang has been awarded as Chinese Woolen Sweater Town, Chinese Electronic Information Industry Town. and National Hygiene Town by China Textile Industry Association, China Electronic Chamber of Commerce and Committee of National Patriotic Health respectively. It is also known as the Provincial Civilized Town, the Provincial Education Power Town, the Provincial Advanced Town of Sports, the Technology Innovation Pilot for Provincial Professional Town, the Provincial Professional Town for Modern Information Service and the Town of Provincial National & Folk Art (lion dance).
Mass culture and art activities are popular in Dalang. Llion dance, dragon dance, ballad, puppet show and other folk cultures are constant source of fascination and pride. In particular, Dajingtou Community was awarded as Town of Folk Art of Guangdong Province and the lion dance, team of Xiangtou Village represented China and won the championship in the International Lion Dance, Invitational Tournament in Toronto, Canada.
Dalang, a new carrier for spiritual and cultural life, provides a platform to the public for cultural learning, communication and exhibition. It also built Dalang Public Records Office, Dalang Exhibition Hall, Dalang Art Gallery, Tianyu Opera House and Yongzheng Lecture Hall to extend the cultural education development for the public.
In addition, Dalang is filled with strong sports atmosphere and has successfully held the 9th National Sports Competition, three sessions of Women Chinese Basketball Association, Men Chinese Basketball Association of 2005-2006 (CBA). Dalang is the only town-level venue named as Advanced Town of Sports in Guangdong Province.
