The Fenggang Town lies in the southeast of Dongguan City, with convenient transportation as it borders Shenzhen in the east, south and west. It covers an area of 82.5 square kilometers, with a population of over 350,000 among a registered population of 29,000. It is also the famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong, with over 30,000 Chinese living in 36 countries and regions over the world. Yang Guanlin, the first nationwide chess champion, was born here. In 2009, Fenggang was approved as central town of Guangdong and successfully won many honorary titles such as the National Hygiene Town, the National Town of Chess, the Civilized Town of Guangdong, the Education Power Town of Guangdong and the Cultural Construction Pacesetter Town of Dongguan.
Fenggang actively builds the two brands of “Hakka overseas Chinese culture” and “chess culture”, developing the wedding celebration culture industry and constructing “Famous Town of Hakkas Overseas Chinese Culture”. It successfully marketed Hakka overseas Chinese culture of Fenggang in 2010, thus enlarging the influence of the “Hakka overseas Chinese culture” brand. It also successfully held the 6th session of National “Yang Guanlin Cup” Chess Open Tournament and was honored as “Chess World Cup,” further promoting “Chess Culture”. Besides, it plans to establish creative parks for wedding celebrations, build a street featured riverside scene at Qingming Festival and a Roman church in European style, and establish a base for wedding photos in South China, propelling the establishment of the “No.1 Town in Chinese Wedding Celebration.”
