As an important town in southwest Dongguan, Houjie Town covers 126 square kilometers, with a population of 440,000. Business and trade in Houjie Town has been prosperous since ancient times, and many industries are already well established along with the continued rapid development. After 30 years of reform and development, the town has initially completed rural industrialization and urbanization and become an emerging modern industrial city in the Pearl River Delta. In recent years, Houjie Town was honored as a “National Hygiene Town,” “Famous Conference and Exhibition Town in China,” “Education Power Town of Guangdong Province” and “Civilized Town of Dongguan City.”
As one of the four famous townships in Dongguan, Houjie Town has preserved its cultural heritage. Historical sites such as the Ancestral Hall of Family Fang, Ao Tai College, and tourist attractions such as Haiyue Rocks, Immortal Water, etc. are located in Houjie .With 600 years of history, the Ancestral Hall of Family Fang, is under provincial protection as a historical site. It is one of the largest ancestral halls in Dongguan and was renovated in March 2010. Ao Tai College, home to many ancient and modern celebrities such as Minister Wang Zhen has a history of more than 500 years and is currently under renovation. Haiyue Rock, one of the eight old sights of Dongguan, is under municipal protection as a cultural relic. In recent years, many entertainment venues were developed, such as the Haiyi Golf Course, Daling Mountain Forest Park, Fushen Hillock Park and Sports Park to name a few. Houjie Town also offers complete educational facilities, with one national model high school of Guangdong Province, one national key vocational technical school and numerous of grade schools.
