Hongmei is located in northwest of Dongguan. The interconnected water network in the area allows water and land transport to be very convenient. The town plans to connect four important railways, namely the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Inter-city Rail, Dongguan-Guangzhou Intercity Rail, Dongguan-Foshan Intercity Rail and Dongguan Urban Rail R1 Line. In recent years, Hongmei has become one of the fastest economic growth towns in Dongguan and was honored as the “Education Power Town of Guangdong Province”, “Hygiene Town of Guangdong Province”, and “Standard Town for Cultural Development of Dongguan City”.
Hongmei has rich cultural traditions. Some local cultural features include festive lanterns, dragon boats, dragon and lion dance, Cantonese opera and other local special folk literature and art. The Flower Lantern Festival and Dragon Boat Festival attract numerous tourists visiting Hongmei every year.
