The Humen Opium Incineration is the historical event that occurred when Qing Dynasty Imperial Commissioner Lin Zexu incinerated opium at Humen. In 1839, Lin began this anti-opium movement in Guangdong, burning more than 2.3 billion pounds of opium on the beaches of Humen from June 3 to 25, shocking the world and marking the start of modern Chinese history. This was a glorious page in the history of the anti-narcotics movements worldwide. The Lin Zexu opium pool and the Humen Fort monuments are physical witnesses to this important history.
