The route of Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan Intercity Rail

The metro line connection between Guangzhou and Dongguan has aroused citizens' attention. Recently, Dongguan Rail Transit Bureau released more details. Overall, there will be three metro lines between Guangzhou and Dongguan. Guangzhou Metro Line 28 (from Foshan to Dongguan) reportedly will be further extended to Songshan Lake in Dongguan and connected to Shenzhen-Dongguan Intercity Rail. According to the development plan, Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will be connected to Binhaiwan Bay Area in Dongguan. At the same time, Dongguan Metro Line 1 will link with Guangzhou Metro Line 25.

Guangzhou Metro Line 28 to be extended to Songshan Lake, Dongguan

The Bureau said, based on the Planning for the Construction of the Intercity Railway in Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area approved by National Development and Reform Commission in August 2020, Guangzhou Metro Line 28, which starts in Foshan, passes through downtown Guangzhou, Xintang Station and Dongguan and will terminate at Xinyuan Road Station, will be interconnected with Shenzhen-Dongguan Intercity Rail. It plans to establish four metro stations in Dongguan, 3 of which will be transfer stations. The line will run about 107 kilometres, including about 18.5 kilometres in Dongguan. Its construction is expected to begin as early as this year.

According to the requirement for the construction of Foshan-Guangzhou-Dongguan Intercity Rail proposed by the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, Dongguan authority suggests that the Metro Line 28 be extended to Songshan Lake with additional 27 kilometres and three stations. The line's construction should prepare for its extension to Shenzhen Guangmingcheng and Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation zone for technology and innovation.
