At 8:40 am on December 10, the Dongguan South Railway Station of the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway in Lincun Community of Tangxia Town, Dongguan City, officially opened as Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway started operation on the same day.
With a construction area of 28,400 square meters, the Dongguan South Railway Station is the second high-speed railway station in Dongguan and the largest one in the city.
Spanning 436.37 km, the Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway boasts a designed top speed of 350 km per hour. It starts from Ganzhou City of east China's Jiangxi Province, passes through Xinfeng, Longnan, Dingnan counties in Jiangxi, Heyuan, Huizhou and Dongguan cities in Guangdong, and finally ends in Shenzhen City. It has 14 stations, including nine in Guangdong and one in Dongguan, i.e. the Dongguan South Station. The Dongguan section of the line passes through five towns, including Xiegang, Qingxi, Zhangmutou, Tangxia, and Huangjiang, where the section spans about 30 kilometres.
The railway shortens the existing train journey from Dongguan City to Ganzhou City. It only takes 17 minutes from Tangxia Town of Dongguan to reach Shenzhen, less than 2 hours to reach Ganzhou and 3.5 hours to Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi Province.
In order to facilitate passengers going to Dongguan South Railway Station, the city has planned ten shuttle bus lines covering Tangxia, Qingxi, Fenggang, Zhangmutou, Changping townships around the Station, and two bus lines connecting to the downtown area, such as the Minying Guomao Mall in Nancheng District, and Dongguan East Bus Terminal in Liaobo Town. It takes only 75 minutes from the Minying Guomao Mall to the Dongguan South Railway Station by bus No.918 and 55 minutes from Dongguan East Bus Terminal to the new railway station in Tangxia Town by bus No.916. The fare for both bus lines is 13 RMB.
