2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and a pivotal year in the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan. On July 12, the "Thousands of Youth Return to Dongguan" exchange event, organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Dongguan Associations, kicked off in Dongguan. Nearly a thousand young people from Hong Kong returned to their hometown of Dongguan, awing at its rapid development.

Paul, the president of the Youth Community of the Hong Kong Federation of Dongguan Associations and organizer of the event, emphasized the importance of reconnecting Hong Kong residents with their Dongguan roots. He believes that this event offers an unique opportunity for participants to explore Dongguan's culture, business environment, and educational prospects. “We hope they will cultivate connections between the two cities from cultural, business, and career perspectives. Especially for students about to graduate and choose a major or university, Dongguan offers tertiary education options.”

The exchange group has arranged a series of rich and diverse activities. The youth will visit relevant government departments, enterprises, associations, and parks in Dongguan across various fields from July 12-14. With specialized teams focusing on finance, technology, culture, and cuisine, young attendees can delve into areas of personal interest and consider Dongguan as a potential place for their future studies or careers.

Youth are the future of our nation and the hope of our people. As young participants experience the latest achievements and unique charm of Dongguan’s modernization efforts, it will promote exchanges and integration between the young people of Dongguan and Hong Kong, contributing to cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, employment, and talent development in the Greater Bay Area.

For Caden, a 13-year-old participant, this visit is a chance to deepen his understanding of Dongguan. He’s particularly excited about exploring the city’s cultural and historical sites, such as the Weightlifting Museum and dragon boat building areas. Caden looks forward to meeting peers with similar interests, fostering connections that bridge the gap between Hong Kong and Dongguan youth.

Paul also highlighted the convenience of traveling within the Greater Bay Area, noting that the high-speed train makes it easy for participants to commute between Hong Kong and Dongguan in just one hour. This accessibility allows young people to experience life in both cities, gaining firsthand insights from those who study and work in Dongguan.

Looking ahead, Paul mentioned plans for more exchange events. “This is our annual event, and we also organize many others, like visits during the lychee season and dragon boat racing season. There will be many opportunities for young Hong Kong people to come to see the Greater Bay Area, to see Dongguan as it is developing and getting better.”

This event not only strengthens the bond between young people in the region but also enriches the cultural fabric of the Greater Bay Area. By coming together, sharing ideas, and building connections, the youth are paving the way for a more integrated, dynamic, and humanistic Bay Area.
