Dongguan rescuers fly to earthquake-stricken Myanmar

A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 14:20 on March 28, at least 144 people were killed and 732 injured in Myanmar, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council reported, drawing global attention. 

On April 1, eight members of the Dongguan Blue Sky Rescue (BRS) Team embarked on a critical mission to aid earthquake-stricken Myanmar. 

The team, led by Captain Zhang Jiajie, Vice Captains Lin Di and Yang Jun, along with experienced rescuers Yan Kongchao, Si Guowei, Zhou Guoyan, Huang Jiaqing, and Shen Jianhua, set off from Dongguan at 8:00. They will fly from Guangzhou to Yangon before heading to Mandalay, the hardest-hit city.  

They carries a large amount of emergency search and rescue equipment, including snake-eye life detectors, hydraulic lifting devices, and demolition tools. They are also equipped with satellite communication devices, medical supplies, and provisions for 72-hour self-sufficiency to ensure sustained operations in challenging conditions. 

"We anticipate severe road and building damage, large-scale power outages, and shortages of drinking water and food," said Captain Zhang. "Despite these challenges, we are committed to leveraging our expertise to save lives and assist the affected communities."  

The Dongguan Blue Sky Rescue Team has extensive international experience, with some members having participated in the 2023 Turkey earthquake relief efforts. Dongguan stands ready to do its best to provide emergency humanitarian assistance and support to the affected area to help people there.
