A new international shipping route has officially opened from Dongguan Port to Algeria, marking a major step in expanding China's global trade links. A cargo ship carrying 15,000 tons of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) recently departed from Dongguan Port, heading directly to the North African nation, without any transshipment.
This new maritime route significantly reduces transportation time and cost, creating a faster, more efficient logistics channel for Chinese goods entering the African market. Algeria, one of Africa's key economies, is experiencing rapid growth in its construction sector, driving up demand for building materials such as MDF.
Until now, exports from China to Algeria had to pass through third-party ports, adding complexity and expense. The new direct route not only strengthens Dongguan's role in the Belt and Road Initiative but also offers manufacturers in the Greater Bay Area better access to emerging overseas markets.
According to Dongguan Port Group, this development is part of a broader strategy to expand international shipping lines, enhance network connectivity, and deepen trade cooperation with Belt and Road countries. With more efficient logistics and growing overseas demand, Dongguan Port is set to become a stronger launchpad for "Made in China" products, supporting the region's high-quality foreign trade growth.
