Following a night of intense downpours, Dongguan remains on alert for continued heavy rain and related hazards. Flooding, landslides, and transport disruptions remain serious concerns.
According to the Dongguan Meteorological Bureau, over the past 24 hours, the city experienced widespread torrential rainfall, with 30 towns and districts recording over 100mm of rain. The hardest-hit areas included Zhangmutou town (431.7mm) and Huangjiang town (360.9mm), with peak hourly rainfall reaching 127.8mm.
While the worst of the storm has passed, the rain continues today and is expected to intensify again around midday. Localized heavy rain and potential severe thunderstorms may persist through August 6-7, especially in southeastern towns like Huangjiang, Xiegang, and Tangxia.
Dongguan Weather
Aug 5: More rainstorms, localized severe rain likely
Aug 6–7: Moderate thunderstorms, some heavy rainfall
Aug 8–13: Cloudy with increasing heat and humidity
In response to safety concerns, 43 trains were suspended at Dongguandong Railway Station this morning, with many others delayed across the network. Passengers are urged to check real-time updates via official railway platforms, broadcasts, or the 12306 app.
Forest parks including Yinping Mountain and Dapingzhang have been temporarily closed to visitors. Reopening dates will depend on weather and safety assessments.
Due to waterlogged soil and prolonged rainfall, the risk of secondary disasters such as landslides, sinkholes, and wall collapses is high, particularly in hillside areas and near rivers. Residents are strongly advised to avoid mountain trails, riverbanks, and flooded areas, and to prepare for potential power and water outages.
The public is advised to
• check the forecast before leaving home;
• postpone non-essential travel;
• stay away from low-lying roads, hillsides, and construction zones;
• do not park or drive in areas prone to flooding;
• prepare emergency supplies including food, water, and medication.
Dongguan's emergency services remain on high alert as the region enters another day of active monsoon conditions. Stay dry, stay alert, and stay safe.
