Rain's gone, but mosquitoes are not! Check these spots!

Recent heavy rainfall has swept through many towns and districts of Dongguan, leaving behind more than just puddles, standing water creates the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.  

To prevent mosquito-borne diseases, it's important to act during and after the rain. Here's what to watch out for:   

During the rain: Eliminate indoor mosquitoes    

Focus areas:

•  Indoor public spaces  

•  Basements, stairwells, storage areas  

•  Parking sheds and dark, damp corners       

Prevention tips:

•  Seal all doors and windows; use mosquito screens  

•  Use mosquito nets and traps in bedrooms and living areas  

•  Remove clutter and clear out any standing water inside                       

After the rain: Clear standing water    

Plant trays and flower pots:Check for water at the base     

Containers indoors:Empty plastic cups, bottles, cans, foam boxes     

Yard and garden:Tires, buckets, rubble, leaf piles, rock ponds     

Drainage systems:Floor drains, open ditches, clogged areas     

Public structures:Air conditioner units, fire hydrants, barriers     

Hidden spots:Bamboo tubes, tree holes, elevator shafts, keyholes in manhole covers
