Dongguan lights up Qixi with festivals, music, and romance

As the Qixi Festival, often called China's Valentines' Day, approaches, Dongguan is brimming with events that bring together age-old traditions and modern entertainment. From ancient trbute displays to starlit concerts and even e-sports, each town has prepared its own way to celebrate love and culture. 

01 Daojiao Town      

From August 27 to 29, Daojiao hosts the "Inheritance of Arts" Qixi series. Visitors can wander night markets, enjoy lion dances, and take photos at romantic spots. 

Qixi Tribute Display Competition       

On August 28, the town comes alive with highlights such as the Qixi Tribute Display Competition, where 14 neighborhood sites showcase elaborate offerings that tell local folk tales.

In Yongqing Village, over 30 food stalls, zongzi tastings, and Cantonese opera performances await, while the "Women's Market" and a Cantonese opera night fill the streets with festive charm.

02 Wangniudun Town       

From August 28 to 30, Wangniudun celebrates with a cultural program themed "Our Festival·Qixi." 

Qixi Night Gala 

The Qixi Night Gala on August 28 combines poetry recitals, guqin and sword dances, and a blessing ritual, recreating the elegance of classical romance.

Starry Sky Concert On August 29, the Starry Sky Concert sets the mood with local bands, love-themed duets, and interactive confession games under the night sky.

03 Hengli Town      

Hengli's celebrations on August 29 focus on a blend of performance and participation. At the Yiyi Art Museum, visitors can explore cultural displays, try hands-on activities, and watch stage performances including Chinese dance, guzheng ensembles, and pop music shows.

04 Wanjiang Distract       

For those seeking a modern twist, Wanjiang turns Qixi into a playground for gamers. From August 29 to 31, the Jiangcheng E-Sports and Trend Carnival takes over the South China Mall square. Highlights include League of Legends challenges, Honor of Kings competitions, traditional stilt-walking, lion dances, cosplay, and even robot dance-offs—merging traditional folk culture with the energy of youth subcultures.
