Dongguan cars to be allowed into urban Hong Kong

Dongguan private car owners will soon have a new way to travel to Hong Kong. Starting from 9:00 on June 9, eligible Guangdong-registered private car owners from Dongguan, Shenzhen, Foshan, Huizhou and Zhaoqing will be able to register for a quota lottery under the "Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles" scheme, which will allow approved vehicles to enter Hong Kong's urban area. The scheme is expected to be extended to all 21 cities in Guangdong Province by or before the first quarter of 2027.

For vehicles entering urban Hong Kong, eligible car owners from the five newly added cities may sign up for the July quota lottery from 9:00 on June 9 to 24:00 on June 20. A total of 4,600 quotas will be available, based on 200 applications accepted per working day over 23 working days. 

The lottery will be held at 10:00 on June 23, and successful applicants may begin submitting application materials from 9:00 on June 29. From 0:00 on July 25, approved car owners may, after making a successful reservation, drive into urban Hong Kong through the Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The scheme also covers access to the automated car park at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. From 9:00 on June 9, the Hong Kong Airport Authority will accept parking reservations from car owners in the five newly added cities for the "Park & Fly" service. Approved vehicles may enter the automated car park from 0:00 on June 15, allowing passengers to transfer to flights at Hong Kong International Airport. 

From July 16, reservations will will also open for the "Park & Visit" service for car owners from the nine Greater Bay Area cities, with approved vehicles allowed to enter the car parking lot from July 25 before visitors proceed to Hong Kong immigration clearance.
