The Asia-Pacific Media Forum (APMF) Dongguan Sub-forum was held in Binhaiwan on September 3. Around 180 government officials, media representatives, academics and business leaders from APEC economies gathered under the theme New Pathways for the Asia-Pacific's Digital, Intelligent and Green Transformation. Using Dongguan as a case study, they discussed the future of manufacturing and opportunities for regional cooperation.

Speakers highlighted Dongguan's transformation from a traditional manufacturing base into a hub for technology-driven production. Topics ranged from AI applications and advanced consumer electronics to green materials and the digital upgrading of traditional industries. Guests also explored how Binhaiwan Bay Area is combining low-carbon industries, green infrastructure and smart urban development, with several international delegates describing Dongguan's experience as a useful reference for other Asia-Pacific economies.

The forum also examined the role of the media in supporting regional development. Participants called on media organizations to make complex technological and environmental changes easier to understand by turning them into relatable human stories. Before the session, delegates visited a 5G-enabled smart factory operated by DeRUCCI and OPPO's Binhaiwan campus, gaining first-hand insight into Dongguan's progress in intelligent manufacturing and global innovation.
