Media representatives from across the Asia-Pacific visited Dongguan from September 2 to 3, exploring the city's smart manufacturing capabilities and green development. Smartphones, AI glasses and other Dongguan-made products quickly became the focus of attention, with many delegates taking photos and trying the devices for themselves. 

Donovan Ralph Martin, CEO and editor-in-chief of Canada's Daily News, was impressed by both the quality and affordability of the locally made technologies. "Dongguan, known as a global manufacturing powerhouse, has deeply integrated AI into its industries, and that is clearly where the future is heading," he said. 

Representatives from Myanmar praised the city's advanced technology and high-quality products, looking forward to greater cooperation between China and Myanmar. An Indonesian media representative returning to Dongguan after two decades was struck by the scale of its transformation, saying the city was completely different from the one he had visited 20 years ago. Its rapid technological progress and improved urban environment left a particularly strong impression.

At the Dongguan forum, Mr. Martin placed the city's development in a broader context. "In Dongguan, we are witnessing a remarkable transformation from the world's factory into a global hub for smart manufacturing," he said. "The scale and speed of that journey are truly impressive."

He also highlighted Binhaiwan Bay Area's approach to integrating the low-carbon industry with urban development, saying Dongguan offered a valuable example of how economic growth and environmental stewardship could advance together. Dongguan's experience could offer useful inspiration for other APEC economies. He added that he looked forward to sharing the city's innovation achievements with audiences in Canada.
