Recently, Chinese Union for Training Excellent Engineers announced the list of outstanding university-industry mentor teams and exemplary cases of training reform. A total of 10 cases from across the nation were selected. The case entitled “Dongguan Practice in National Excellent Engineer Innovation Education”, submitted by Dongguan National Excellent Engineer Innovation Education Institute, was successfully selected, becoming the only local-led case nationwide this year.

Why has Dongguan been able to forge a "Dongguan Path" in cultivating excellent engineers? 

First, we are establishing a super hub to link universities and enterprises. Since 2017, we have been exploring joint postgraduate training programs with leading universities, and in 2022 we became one of the first pilot cities for national excellent engineer innovation education. We are facilitating the two-way flow of resources between universities and enterprises.

Second, project-based postgraduate studies. Each year, we partner with enterprises to identify R&D topics, select training projects, and use enrollment quotas and funding support as levers to drive high-quality practice.

Third, full-cycle support: living allowances, transportation subsidies, dormitories, and shared dining, cultural, and sports resources.

Moving forward, Dongguan will focus on refining its approach to cultivate excellent engineers.
