Two universities in Dongguan have earned places in the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects released by ShanghaiRanking on September 15. Dongguan University of Technology had nine subjects listed, while Great Bay University secured a place for one subject.
This year's ranking evaluated more than 3,000 universities across 57 subjects in natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine and social sciences. Nearly 20,000 subjects from more than 2,000 universities in 96 countries and regions made the final lists.
Universities from the Chinese mainland continued to make gains, with 394 institutions recording 4,077 subject placements. In Guangdong, 381 subjects from 30 universities were included, the third-highest total among provincial-level regions nationwide.
The results highlight the growing academic strength of Dongguan's higher education sector. Both universities have focused heavily on science and engineering, aligning their teaching and research with the needs of the city's advanced manufacturing industries and helping cultivate talent for Dongguan's future development.
