JD.com has released a "Chinese New Year Big Data Report for special purchases for Spring Festival 2020," showing that popular purchases in the lead-up to the festival are still dairy products, cereals, oils, condiments, and snacks.
The report shows that Guangdong is a province of foodies, with the province accounting for 16% of the nation's total orders for roasted nuts, 17% for candy and chocolate, and 20% for all condiment orders. Guangdong consumers also spend the most in China on CNY goods.
As spending power has increased, other items have also grown in popularity, with sales for intelligent robot cleaners, vacuums, intelligent dishwashers, and other intelligent cleaning devices increasing 42% year on year.
This year, Mickey Mouse products, including red packets and couplets, have been particularly popular, often selling out quickly due to IP’s link with the Year of the Rat. Profit from Mickey Mouse-related merchandise has increased by 30% as a result.
