The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar, and is one of the most important Chinese festivals. People in Dongguan typically make zongzi, have a family reunion dinner and enjoy Dragon-boat racing during the day. In addition to the traditional big dragon boats, there are people in Dongguan who craft small dragon boats. Liang Shengqiang, who runs a small drugstore in Machong market, is such a craftsman. In recent years, he has spent an increasing amount of his time making small dragon boats for local customers and is even sought by persons as far away as Shandong, Beijing and Hong Kong.
Machong town is the famous hometown of Dragon Boat in Dongguan, and continuously finds new ways to use dragon boat racing and its’ culture as a carrier to create a dragon boat cultural brand.
