Songshan Lake Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (“the Zone”), established under the approval of Guangdong provincial People’s Government in Nov. 2001, was listed as National High-tech Industrial Development Zone by the State Council in Sept. 2010.
Conveniently situated at the center of Dongguan City along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Economic Corridor, Songshan Lake boasts unparalleled geographic advantages. The Zone borders Guangzhou to the north, Shenzhen and Hong Kong to the south, with a valuable area of 72 km2 for industrial development. It contains an 8-km2 -freshwater lake and the total area of green land and forest reaches 14 km2. SSL has gradually been recognized as an international hub of eco-technology.
Over the years, the Zone has received numerous awards and titles, including China's High-tech Industrial Development Zone with the Greatest Development Potential, The Best Development Zone for International Investment, National High-Tech Industrial Base for the Information Industry, Pioneer Park for Returned Oversea Elites Jointly Built by the Ministry and Guangdong Province, Pearl River Delta Cultural and Creative Industry Experimental Zone, National-Level International Science & Technology Cooperation Base, National Pilot Park for S&T Service System Construction, and National Demonstration Base for New-Type Industrial Industries.
The past years has seen dynamic and steady growth in SSL, which stick to its development strategy of “Demonstration Zone for Scientific Development and Pioneering Role for Industrial Transformation”. Significant successes have been achieved in introducing both investments and talents. With the continuous integration of industrial clustering and progress in technical innovations, SSL has become Dongguan’s powerful engine for the second-time economic take-off on a higher development platform.
Songshan Lake focuses its investment on three major industries, which are to develop and expand the high-end electronics and information industry by mainly attracting a new generation of communications, integrated circuit design, key electronic components, high-end electronic equipments, new communication materials and Internet of things, mobile Internet, cloud computing and other domain projects; to make every effort to build a biotechnology industry, by speeding up the building of “Dongguan Cross-strait Biotechnology Industry Cooperation Base” and striving to become a national biotechnology industry base; to actively promote the modern service industry which includes the modern financial services industry, the cultural and creative industries and E-commerce, striving to become the modern service industry pilot of Guangdong.
So far, Songshan Lake has introduced more than 1000 high-quality projects, including Huawei, Lensen Technology, CIMC，Yulong Communication, EAST, China Electronics Corporation, Shengyi Technology, Shuimu Animation, Dunhuang Network, etc.
Songshan Lake implements the strategy of “one zone, several parks” and plans to build numerous scientific and technologies carriers, such as the University Innovation City, Taiwan High-tech Park, the Biotechnology Industrial Cooperation Base of Taiwan and Mainland, China-Israel International Science and Technology Cooperation Industrial Park, the International Robot Industrial Base, Songhu HUST Business Incubator, the Innovation and Technology Park, the Science Park, the No.1 Headquarters, Dongguan Overseas Students Pioneer Park, the Ph.D Pioneer Park, the Virtual University Park, and so forth.
In bid to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, Dongguan municipal government has established 19 public S&T innovation platforms in SSL through collaborations with Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, among other renowned universities and research institutes in China. Through industry-university-research institute collaborations, scientific special commissioner, technical support and other means, these public S&T innovation platforms have forged extensive cooperative ties with over ten thousand enterprises in the Pearl River Delta region. Such collaborations have reaped practical fruits in the breakthrough and application of industrial generic technologies, core technologies and emerging industrial technologies. Further, it contributes significantly to the upgrading of materials, processes, equipment and products in Dongguan and the PRD region, and lays a solid foundation for beefing up the core competitiveness of S&T enterprises and fostering strategic new industries in the region.
