Located in northeast Dongguan, Shipai is a new riverside town characterized by its beautiful landscape and growing prosperity. It has a registered population of 45,000 and a temporary population of 113,000. Since China’s reform and opening-up, Shipai has successfully promoted sustainable development of its economy and society by focusing its efforts on overall economic development. As a result, it has witnessed constant growth in comprehensive development, accelerated transformation, optimization of urban environment and increasingly harmonious life.
Shipai’s plethora of well-preserved ancient buildings serves as tourist attractions. For example, Tangwei ancient buildings were named “Important Heritage Site under State Protection,” and the Tangwei Village was named “China’s Historical and Cultural Village.” Hengshan Emperor Kang Temple and Yanling Ancient Stone Pit Relics are rated as “Provincial Protected Historic Site of Guangdong.” “The Lion Dance” and “Emperor Kang’s Birthday” are listed in the intangible cultural heritages of Guangdong Province. Zhongkeng Village is named as the “Town of Chinese Folk Arts.” Shell Mound Relics in Longyangang, the Large Ancestral Hall of Family Wang in Zhongkeng, Fulong Pavilion in Fulong and the Puxin ancient architectural complex are rated as the historic sites under municipal protection.
In addition, Shipai is home to the largest wetland park in Dongguan, in addition to the significant Dongjiang River Fulong Dam, the beautiful Carp Isle that lies in the heart of the Dongjiang River and the forceful and elegant inscriptions on precipices.
