Chang’an is located in the Pearl River estuary in southern Dongguan. The town borders Fenglun to the east, Shangjiao to the west, Dongbao River to the south and Lotus Mountain to the north. The town is also near Songgang Town in Baoan District in Shenzhen, Humen Town, Lingdingyang in the Pearl River estuary, and Dalin Mountain Town. Given its close proximity to these areas, the town is seated in the center, backed against the mountain and sea, with a dragon (Shekou) to the left and a tiger (Humen) to the right.” It covers an area of 98 square kilometers. Chang’an with a population of more than 660,000, a registered population of 52,000 and nearly 30,000 residents from Hong Kong.
Chang’an Town was awarded the title Top 100 Town in National Forestation and Greening Works, Model Town for National Town Construction and National Hygiene Town. 44.7% of the town is covered in greenery.
In recent years, Chang’an Town has invested 650 million RMB to improve cultural and sports facilities, including building the Culture Centre, Chang’an Plaza, a library and sports park.  In addition, the town also established 12 cultural and sports associations, and set up more than 50 part-time art and literature clubs such as lion and dragon dance teams. More than 6000 skilled artists actively participate in these town activities throughout the year. As a result, many cultural activities take place in Chang’an, including an arts  festival; a sports event and a nationwide cultural event are held every three years. The town has won such honorary titles as Town of Chinese Cantonese opera, Town of the National Dragon and Lion Dance, Town of National Children Gymnastics, Town of Chinese Calligraphy and Home of Chinese Photography, as well as Advanced County for Excellence in Implementing South Canton Splendid Project in Guangdong Province.
