Daojiao is located in western Dongguan with a population of 141,400 among a registered population of 57,100. Daojiao has profound cultural relics and flourishing sports events. The Dragon Boat Race and Cantonese Opera have been popular for generations in the area. Many of China’s talented swimmers come from Daojiao, and the town has named as the “Town of Swimming” and “Town of Chinese Folk Culture and Art”, and was awarded the “Advanced Town for Mass Body-Building Activities of Rural Residents Nationwide”, “Education Power Town in Guangdong Province” and “National Town Excellent in Hygiene”.
Daojiao is recognized nationwide for offering delicious food and rich tourist experiences. Apart from the famous Yuehui Park, there are many other historical relics, such as Weihuan Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Memorial for the thousand warriors resistant against the Qing Dynasty, Jichuan Bridge and “6.11” Pavilion. Dishes such as Daojiao soup, Daojiao meatball, Daojiao rice dumpling, etc are famous in China, giving the town the name of “Famous Town for Specialty Food in China”. Since 2008, a Food Culture Festival has been held annually in Doujiao, attracting investment for the town’s food industry and providing a major platform for sales exhibition of food products from home and abroad.
