Eaves tiles are accessories from ancient Chinese architecture used for decoration and shielding the eaves of buildings from wind and rain. They were first used in the Zhou Dynasty (1122-221BC), developed in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 – 476BC) and Warring States Period (475 – 221BC), prospered in the Han Dynasty (206BC –220AD), and lasted to the Ming (1368-1644AD) and Qing (1644-1911AD) dynasties, creating an art unique to the Chinese nation.

The exhibition selected about 70 pieces of eaves tiles of Qin and Han dynasties (221BC-220 AD) collected by the Ankang Museum of Shaanxi Province. Unearthed from the capital site of Qin and Han, these eaves tiles are rich in content and theme. They integrate calligraphy with painting, craftsmanship and sculpture art, which have great ornamental value. They offer a glimpse of the architectural aesthetics, humanistic history, social life and spiritual pursuit of the Qin and Han dynasties.
