Dongguan has always had the excellent reputation as being the homeland of Yue (Cantonese) songs and Yue (Cantonese) operas. Daojiao has been given the titles of honor “the homeland of China’s opera art” and “the homeland of China’s folk art”. Machong Town has also gained the title honor “the homeland of China’s opera art” of the first batch. Cantonese operas are massively popular with the people of Dongguan. Guangdong’s prestigious Cantonese opera actors, like famous Cantonese opera magnate Lu Qiguang, often sing and teach art in Dongguan. The amateur Cantonese opera group of Chang’an Town went to Beijing to perform the large-scale Cantonese opera “Origin Seeking” in the Great Hall of the People, and achieved the gold prize in the seventh China Azalea Folk Opera Festival and the special prize of the folk opera in the second National Opera Literature Prize.
