The most convenient way to Beijing or Shanghai from Dongguan was by plane or train from Shenzhen or Guangzhou. However, from 5th January Humen high-speed railway station goes direct to Beijing and Shanghai.

The D902 train from Humen high-speed railway station to Beijing is planned to depart at 19:54 daily, arriving the next day at Beijing West Railway Station at 06:56, the total travel time being approximately 11 hours and 2 minutes. The D933 train from Humen to Shanghai is planned to depart at 19:43 daily and arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at 06:50 the next day, the total travel time being approximately 11 hours and 7 minutes.

Previously, it took more than 18 hours for Dongguan residents to reach Beijing or Shanghai using ordinary trains. From Dongguan East Railway Station to Beijing, there are only the K106 and Z182 trains per day. Passengers must board at 11:00 am and it takes at least 23 hours to reach the destination. Similarly, there are also only 2 trains to Shanghai daily and the journey also takes more than 18 hours. The opening of the new high-speed rail route will provide a new choice for Dongguan residents.
