News report about Ji Daxin's 0-emission life

Ji Daxin, a 68-year-old man from Taiwan, has been living in Dongguan for more than 20 years. A 6-7 square-metre room crowded with "junk" is his new workshop following retirement. Every morning, he and his wife sort neighbourhood rubbish into several categories for recycling.

In his view, people will gradually accept rubbish sorting as a societal and economic benefit. At present however, when some people see him picking rubbish from the ground, they whisper that Ji and the small eco-protection station demean the local community.

Ji always says that "rubbish are resources in a wrong place." Although he expends effort convincing his neighbours, he feels sad at their general incomprehension and indifference to rubbish sorting. He continues to introduce rubbish classification to neighbours and telling them it will be good for their health, the earth and any money gained will be donated to the poor.

Widespread waste sorting is difficult to implement without compulsory regulations and systematic recycling processes. In spite of this, Ji shared his recycling experience from Taiwan with estate owners. Through his efforts, more than 30 families now voluntarily participate in rubbish classification while over 200 families are involved in this eco-friendly work.

Ji isn't satisfied with his "achievement" after 8 years' effort. He says he will continue to encourage more people to learn about rubbish classification and environmental protection.
