On 27th February, China's Ministry of Science and Technology announced the country's top 10 scientific advances of 2019. Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory researched and published the "Development of high-temperature bulk metallic glass based on material genetic engineering", which was successful selected.
Amorphous alloys are considered to be a new-generation engineering material following traditional steel and plastics. It has the characteristics of metal, amorphous, solid and liquid. Since its’ discovery, it has been widely used in high-tech fields due to its high performance.
By using a genetic material engineering concept to develop a unique high-throughput experimental method, the research team were able to realize rapid screening of amorphous alloys. Furthermore they were able to develop a new system using high-temperatures and producing high-strength amorphous alloy materials.
The application of high-throughput experimental methods in the field of amorphous alloys is expected to solve the problem of inefficient exploration of new amorphous alloy materials, help to obtain more high-performance amorphous alloy materials, and expand its application in high-tech fields.
Related work was published in the world's leading science journal Nature in May 2019 with the title of "High-temperature bulk metallic glasses developed by combinatorial methods".
