12th May marks International Nurses Day. Tang Lingqun, a nurse at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Dongguan City, is an avid art lover so decided to celebrate this special day with a group of leaf carving works featuring anti-epidemic efforts.
This group of leaf carving works display frontline anti-epidemic scenes, such as nurses measuring body temperatures, doctors collecting swabs from patients, and medical staff processing patient registration. Tang also used her leaf carving skills to show how hospitals made masks and other supplies to alleviate the shortage of protective equipment. There are also scenes where doctors and nurses wear protective clothing and support frontline epidemic prevention efforts.
Tang said that leaf carving is very time-consuming. It requires half a day to sculpt each leaf. This set of works took more than four months to complete. "I continued carving leaves at home during my spare time these past few months. There have been so many touching moments during the epidemic, and I hope to capture the story of the fighters in white."
