Dongguan issues mask wearing guidance

To guide the public to wear masks scientifically, protect people's health, prevent and reduce the risk of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia transmission, the Dongguan COVID-19 Prevention and Control Command Office issued the "Science-based Guides for the Public to Wear Masks during the Normalized COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Dongguan" on 29th May. Specially formulated in accordance with the actual situation of Dongguan City, this guide offers suggestions on how to wear masks in different places.

Ⅰ When you should wear a mask

(1) Situations when you should wear a disposable medical mask or medical surgical mask

1. When taking public transportation such as a taxi, online car-bookings, buses, subway, long-distance buses, trains, ships, airplanes, etc…;

2. When remaining indoors with poor open air ventilation such as theatres, cinemas, waiting rooms (in transportation station or airports), underground or relatively closed shopping places, cyber cafes, elevators, etc…;

3. When in places which require close contact (≤1 metre) with others such as civil service halls, farm produce markets, pharmacies, barber shops, beauty salons, training institutions, etc… ;

4. When someone in the family develops a fever, cough or other Covid-19 symptoms, all family members in the residence should wear a mask;

5. Patients with respiratory symptoms, such as a fever, cough, etc., and their visitors or helpers in the hospital.

(2) Situations when you should wear a medical surgical mask or a protective mask (without exhalation valve) that meet or exceed KN95/N95 standards.

Ⅱ Staff members in specific places who should wear masks

Staff members working in the following places should wear disposable medical masks or medical surgical masks during their work: Citizen service halls, supermarkets, shopping malls (shops), bookstores, catering establishments, hotels, exhibition halls, museums, art galleries, libraries, stadiums, swimming pools, gymnasiums, theatres, dance halls , KTV’s, cinemas, cyber cafes, bars, coffee shops, tea houses, parks, amusement parks, scenic areas, farm produce markets, pharmacies, barber shops, beauty salons, training institutions, waiting rooms (in transportation stations or airports), when using public transportation tools, community exits and entrances, when at reception desk of enterprises or institutions, at closed (semi-closed) factory workshop, etc...

If there are specific epidemic prevention guidelines for a defined industry or place, those regulations must be adhered to.
